Territory of Italy

This is a small strip (3 m wide and 60 m in length) near the northern colonnade of St. Peter, is, according to Lateran Treaty, the territory of Italy and located in the Italian jurisdiction. This has been the subject of dispute in a joint Italian-Vatican commission, prior to 1932, to clarify the wording Lateran agreements. However, since the Commission's decision was commendatory, Italy refused to recognize the results of the discussion and left the strip of land along the Colonnade along.
