neighbourhood, town district, historic district
Formerly very working class, this neighborhood has become over time the favored address of intellectuals, artists, journalists, and writers. It remains a truly typical neighborhood with narrow streets running between ochre buildings with decripit facades and laundry hanging from the windows. The narrow streets, barely lit at night but full of nightowls there for the scene and the hip bars, offer little in the way of extraordinary architecture; yet they have retained a genuine character. But for how much longer...?
