Also known as Site Baker, this was a nuclear weapons storage facility from 1947 until 1969. Low level radioactive waste is buried here, but far more dangerous is the asbestos contamination in the underground bunkers, making them unsafe to enter.

  • Is this the same place known as the "AHA",( Ammo Holding Area ). Back in the mid-1980s we soldiers who drove HEMTTs would go south of the interstate to the AHA to pick up ammo for howitzers in the field. It was near Robert Gray Army Airfield so this must be the place. I did not know it might be cancer causing someday tho.

  • The base closed in 1969, not 1960. I was there to close the gates behind me.
  • I was a cook at Killeeen Base from June of 1962 until January, 1964. Excellent duty.

  • My dad was stationed here I believe it was beginning the summer of 1964 and he retired there in February of 1968. He was a CWO3. His name was Buck Buchanan. I absolutely love being there. My brother graduated from Killen High School, I went to Fairway Junior High and my sister attend elementary school on Ft. Hood. A good life!!
