church, house, National Trust property (UK), Grade II* Listed (UK)
This structure was originally a place where 'church ales' were held in the 16th and 17th centuries. Subsequently, the building became almshouses, a school and a workhouse, before becoming the village school again in 1875. It is now the village hall and is used regularly for village events, such as the renowned 'Widecombe Fair'.
