speedway race track, velodrome
Each year builders and riders of futuristic pedal-powered machines race each other on this section of State route 305. With an improved new surface in 2008 Sam Whittingham of Canada was able to power the Varna Diablo III machine to a new record of just over 82 MPH. This speed was significant because it allowed him to win the .deciMach prize of $23,000 for being the first person to go over one tenth of the Speed of Sound on human power alone.
In 2013 a Dutch cyclist reached 83.13 MPH, a new Record.
