Ardlethan Tin Mine opened in 1961 until 1986 when it closed due to the lower demand for tin. In 2001 the mine was reopened by Marlborough Resources but was again closed in 2004 when the operator of the mine was placed under voluntary administration and lower-than-expected tin reserves.
