In this temple Lord shiva is known as Sri Palliswarar & Amrutheswarar, and ambal is known as Lokambika. This temple is a parikara sthalam referred in some nadi jothida suvadis (palnm leaves). Legend has it that the devas ate the amritham here after praying Lord shiva. Some demons wanted to eat the amritham also and so took the form of a frog and came to this place. The Lord Cursed them to be the Frog ever. There is a belief that the pond in front of the temple contains amritham. There is also no frogs in this pond.
