J.H. Holmes came to Saskatoon in 1904 and eventually teamed up with John Ashworth in the real estate business. They put down a five hundred dollar down-payment on a quarter section of land between Idylwyld and Avenue H from 22nd to 29th Streets. After subdividing the quarter they sold it. They eventually donated 10 acres to the town in 1907 for a park that now bears their name. This well designed park is one of the oldest in the city and contains many facilities including the Mayfair Lawn Bowling Club.
