cultural heritage / national heritage, pond
The pond was built by King Pratap Malla to please his queen who was shocked after passing away of their son. Hence it is known as Queen's Pond or Rani Pokhari in Nepali.
The water level in this pond is going down every year. Two years ago fish left on this pond as a sign of good karma by Budhists were at the verge of dying. Then the rainwater from the rooftop of Trichandra college was diverted on to this pond. This gave some life to the historic pond. The highly built-up area and due to lack of pervious surface, the underground water table is getting lower and lower. In additon, the Rains in Kathmandu have become more eratic and temperature is going up every year.
