water supply treatment plant, water supply pumping station
A pumping station has stood on this site since c. 1882. The current building dates from the early 1900s. Originally drawing water from directly offshore, it later got its water from the Hyde Park Crib (usually called the 68th Street Crib). Now it pumps water treated by the South Water Purification Plant.
