Joins the suburbs of Wedding (left, west) with Prenzlauer Berg (right, east). The bridge was completed in 2002 after previously only being passable by pedestrians. Most of the bridge was completed earlier however with the new ICE trainstation at Gesundbrunnen there were planning problems regarding the bridge height that delayed completion.

During the divid of East and West Germany, the bridge was theoretically passable only for pedestrians however was blocked and guarded by border police as the wall ran from Bornholmer Station toward the centre of Berlin. During the second world war, the bridge was damaged by a bomb and not repaired for vehicles.
