  • The Roe River is not a true river. It was artificially made when the original Giant Springs were given a grotesque concrete barrier in the 1930's. It's purpose is to feed the nearby fish hatchery. In fact, there is no mention of such a river in Meriwether Lewis's journal, and early photographs from the 1900's do not show a river. The pool of water from the springs simply overflowed into the nearby Missouri a few feet away.
