The United States' largest county park. Beaver Creek Park is approximately 15 miles x 2 miles. It was formed when the Fort Assiboine Military Reservation was given over to the Chippewa Creek tribe as a reservation. A group of community leaders managed to get the park awarded to Hill County.
It is operated under an interesting financial model. From October until April each year, the park is leased to local cattle ranchers to graze cattle. The funds from these leases pay for operation, and the grazing maintains weed control. The park is usable year round for fishing, hiking, and camping.
