Opened on November 25, 1970 as the Centrum department store, the largest in East Germany. Became Kaufhof following Reunification and the dissolution of the Centrum monopoly. Rebuilt 2004-2006.

Sits roughly on the site of the famous Herman Tietz department store, destroyed in WWII.
