In the Middle Ages this area was known as Pig Hill for its many piggeries, and subsequently became Poupart's Market Garden. In the 1870s the Artisans, Labourers and General Dwelling Company Housing Co-operative built thousands of small Victorian homes on it for upwardly mobile working people - and deliberately did not include any pubs. Now a smart residential area.
