archaeological site, ancient ruins
The archaeological site is located north of the modern settlement of Palatiano. The site was inhabited since the early Iron Age and flourished under Roman rule until the late 3rd century, when it was apparently destroyed by barbarian invaders and abandoned. Subsequently, it occasionally served as a burial ground. It is speculated that this was ancient Ioron in the region of Krestonia. It may have been a center of the worship of Dionysos, as suggested by some of the artifacts found on the site.
