lake, quarry
Natural landmark, an old shale quarry with gray shale piles around. As from 1807 was there produced "Czech fuming oleum". Alum pyrite slate was deponed on clay underbed piles around the quarry and constantly irrigated, diluted iron- and alluminium sulphate were collected to barrrels and distilled. The final product - oleum or vitriol - was important to production of indigo. Similar prodiction were made also in Brasy and Kaznejov by procedure inventor and enterpreneur J.D.Starck. Production was ended with the end of 19th century. Quarry was filled with water after abandonment and become lake. Disoluted iron sulfate gives the red colour to lake waters.
