King Dutu Gemunu's 1st stupa was Marichavatti or Mirisaveti dagaba. History states king Dutu Gemunu ate a peper curry with out giving the Maha sanga, after that incident he went to a bath in Tissa wewa. On his way to tissa wewa he standed his sword with Buddha's relics. But when he came back to take it back he could not pull it so as a punishment for him self for not giving some of the peper curry he built the Mirisaveti temple. This stupa is one of the 16 sacred places.
