Gampaha is an urban city in Sri Lanka. Gampaha District belongs the Western Province. Gampaha is separated from Colombo by mainly the Kelani River.
The word "Gampaha" is composed from "Gam", which means village and "paha", which means five - literally meaning "Five Villages". The five villages in the Gampaha city is Ihalagama, Pahalagama, Medagama, Aluthgama and Yagoda. Gampaha is most famous for the Botanical garden[1] where the first rubber tree was planted in Sri Lanka which still remains.
It is also the home of the famous Ayurveda Physician Wickremaraachci who produced hundreds of Ayurveda Physicians who came to be known as Ayurveda Physicians of Gampaha. They are still found all over Sri Lanka.
