North Infirmary Command (NIC)
Primarily houses inmates requiring infirmary care.

North Infirmary Command consists of two infirmary buildings, one of them the original Rikers Island Hospital built in 1932. The facility has a 500-bed capacity housing infirmary care, non-infirmary and general population inmates. It also houses inmates who require extreme protective custody because of the notoriety or the nature of their case. A special dormitory houses inmates with AIDS and AIDS-related cases.
