On this site was located the factory originally built by Maxwell Motors in 1916 to assemble automobiles and trucks, which became part of Maxwell-Chalmers following a 1921 merger with Chalmers Motor Car Co. In 1925 Walter Chrysler took the floundering Maxwell-Chalmers and formed Chrysler Corporation and acquired the Windsor plant which became known as Plant 1.
Following the opening of the Windsor Assembly Plant (Plant 3) in 1929 at Walker Road and Tecumseh Road East, the plant was converted to truck production in 1931, making Dodge, Graham, and Fargo Trucks. It produced trucks until 1978. In 1980 it was reopened and operated as the Imperial Quality Assurance Centre until 1983.
