Ford car dealer, production, foundry, historical layer / disappeared object
Originally constructed in 1934 the foundry and heat treating plant were expanded substantially in 1941 and 1943. Also known as Plant 5, or the Windsor Casting Plant, it produced cylinder blocks and crankshafts.
The plant ceased operation in July of 2007, pursuant to the company's decision to exit the business of casting engine parts. Approximately 500 jobs were lost. The 500,000 sq. ft building was demolished in 2008.
This foundry was a major source of air pollution but it also employed a lot of Windsorites.
