Brocard and his wife Charlotte Reve, a Belgian woman raised in Moscow were masters of product development and advertising. In 1872 they decided to cut out the middleman and market their products directly to the public. This location, opened in 1872, was the first of their several stores.

The factory production frequently received high awards at All-Russia, world and international exhibitions, and the products were on sale in Russia and abroad to the Spanish court and the Duchess of Edinburgh.

In addition to sold soap for a penny apiece in unusual shapes - animals for babies, letters for school children, round balls, vegetables, etc. they marketed perfumery sets containing 10 products including soap, lipstick perfume, colognes, sachets and cream, all for one ruble.

Products were sometimes unusual (for example, soap in the form of a cucumber or a round ball), and extravagant advertising (a fountain spurting cologne) was common.

In 1918 the factory is nationalized. Initially it was called Soap and Perfumery Factory No.5 but in 1922 it was renamed «New dawn» (Pavel Andreeva's street, 23).
