Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm

When built in 2000 this was the largest offshore wind farm in the world and was established by Middelgrunden Wind Turbine Co-operative. Located in the Øresund strait, just a few km from Copenhagen, Denmark, it consists of 20 Bonus/Siemens 2MW wind turbines with a combined nominal capacity of 40 MW.

  • From 2002, no longer the largest. Overtaken by Horns Rev, Nysted, North Hoyle and soon many others. Still probably the one seen by most people, though, and a pioneer in making offshore wind power feasible.
