"Vlad Dracul" House (Paulinus House) is now transformed into a restaurant recreating the medieval atmosphere. In this building, belonging to the guard of the city, used as guest house, is said to have lived between 1431-1435, before reaching as ruler of Wallachia, Vlad Dracul II, son of Mircea the Elder and father of Vlad III the Impaler, aka Dracula. Vlad II has beaten its own currency (a ducat silver) in the workshop of a silversmith in Sighisoara and issued the document in that is mentioned for the first time the Romanian name of the city (Sghisoara).
According to tradition, in this house would be born Vlad Tepes.
Vlad II was called "Dracul" after being invested by the king Sigismund, on February 8, 1431, at Nuremberg, with the Order of the Dragon. This order was a military-religious society that had to stop expansion of the Ottoman Empire.
The Blazon of the order was represented by a dragon (symbol of the Ottomans) and a cross (symbol of Christianity). As the Romanian "dragon" (Drache, German) is also called "drac", to Vlad II was added the qualification "Dracula" and his followers were called Draculesti; Vlad III was "Draculea" (Dracula), i.e. "Devil's Son".

Dracula's myth has come - who knows how! - one of the main attractions of Sighisoara. Everywhere - on street corners, in shops, are exposed hundreds of souvenirs that image the "fierce" Vlad Tepes, so hunted by tourists. Although there is very little historical data to confirm speculation about the connection between Dracula and Sighisoara, thousands of hikers continue to look for Dracula here, hoping to find him ...
