Loop Road (CR 94)
Loop Road is a dirt and gravel path that was originally one of the alignments for the plans of Tamiami Trail, when it was engineered by the Chevelier Corporation. When state funds ran dry, Barron Collier offered to support the remaining costs of the road construction, but under the stipulation that the road stay entirely within the Collier County limits.
"Loop Road" is the only road that crosses into mainland Monroe County. When it was revised, this loop road which connects it to the Tamiami Trail in Miami-Dade and Collier counties, was eventually labeled "State Road 94" (later County Road 94), presumably due to the original "U.S. Route 94" designation for this section of the Tamiami Trail.
Although it is quite a scenic route, traveling on Loop Road is not recommended for most automobiles, unless your vehicle has a lot of ground clearance, as it is a gravel and limestone road prone to flooding and is very bumpy. It is currently managed by the National Park Service.
