USS Portland was the second member of the Anchorage Class of Dock Landing Ships (LSDs) in service with the US Atlantic Fleet from 1970 to 2003. During her her service she saw action in Lebanon, Libya, Somalia and in the First Gulf War.
Following her decommissioning she was held for a year in the James River Reserve Fleet before being sunk as a target at this location in 2,621 fathoms on April 25th, 2004
