The USS Vesole was a Gearing Class Destroyer in service with the US Atlantic Fleet from 1945 to 1976 and saw action in the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam.
Following her decommissioning she was laid up in the Reserve Fleet until April 14th, 1983 when she was sunk at this location as a target ship.
