The first historical monument in Simferopol - Dolgorukovskij obelisk - was built in 1842 and immortalized the events of Russian-Turkish war of 1768 - 1774. In which the summer of 1771 the second Russian army under the command of Commander in Chief VM Dolgorukov occupied the Crimea. The monument was erected on the means grandson VM Dolgorukova Crimean close to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the place where the June 22 (July 3) Chief ordered to establish its headquarters tent. To develop the project was invited by the architect August Shtreyhenberg. Work on the stone were made by Russian master Fyodor Vakhrushev. Dolgorukovskij obelisk was opened and consecrated in the special atmosphere of solemnity 17 (29) November 1842
