807 E. 175th St. was the third studio the American Mutoscope and Biograph Company, built in 1913. It was one of the largest studios of the early silent era. The stars included the pioneering director D.W. Griffith, and box office giants Mary Pickford, Lionel Barrymore, and Lillian Gish.

Griffith eventually moved his unit to the west coast and left the company.

After Biograph declared bankruptcy and folded, the studio was leased out to other studios for making shorts. It finally closed in 1939 and was briefly resurrected in 1956 as Gold Medal Studios and was the largest studio outside Los Angeles. Closed for good in 1961.
