garage, interesting place
5-story parking garage completed in 1871. Designed by Henry Fernbach as a store and factory with a cast-iron facade, It was converted to a parking garage in 1925, and during the Prohibition era also served as a headquarters of sorts for bootleggers. The ground floor is painted grey, with fluted columns and a modillioned cornice, and the upper floors are dark green, with Doric columns dividing the facade into six bays, segmental-ached windows with keystones, and cornices between each floor. A black iron fire escape runs down the center of the facade, which is topped by a modillioned black metal roof cornice.
