Herk-de-Stad is a city in the province of Limburg in Belgium and is the capital of the electoral district of Herk-de-Stad. In addition, the city belongs to the judicial canton of Hasselt 2.
The area descends slowly from the south (55 m) to the Demer Valley depression in the north (22 m). The soils consist of moist sandy loam soils and wet river clay. In the north lies the Schulensbroek, a natural swamp area along the Demer that was expanded into the Schulensmeer with the construction of the E314.
Herk-de-Stad is located on the border of Moist-Haspengouw, Hageland and the Kempen.
