Niagara's Horseshoe Falls are illuminated at night by high-powered lights mounted on the Illumination Tower. Since 1997 the Tower has used eighteen Xenon lights, each 30 inches in diameter and producing 250,000,000 candlepower of light.
The illumination tower is actually a surge tank for the Ontario Power generating station located below in the gorge.
