Taking shape in the Number 12 Drydock of the Newport News Shipbuilding Yard is the future second member of the Gerald R. Ford Class of Supercarriers, USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79).

The ship's keel was laid down on August 22, 2015 and is presently slated for launching in 2018. The ship is currently slated to enter US Navy service in 2022, at which time she is likely to replace the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) in the US Carrier Force.

  • As of 2021, this is now PCU Enterprise, CVN-80 USS JFK, CVN-79 is now at the pier next to ex-Enterprise, CVN-65 I would have edited the listing. But, I couldn't sign in!
