2-story building completed in 1880. Designed by Gambrill & Ficken as a stable. It was converted to studio apartments in 1939, and was acquired by NYU in 1949. La Maison Francaise was founded in 1957, and has become the most active center of French-American cultural and intellectual exchange to be found on any American campus.

It is clad in red brick, with three bays of tall windows at the ground floor facing University Place. Above, there are two smaller windows flanking a central segmental-arched window. The north-facing facade has an entrance at the ground floor, with three windows on the 2nd floor; all the windows have white wooden exterior shutters, and both facades are capped by a simple white metal roof cornice. A small 1-story rear extension has a door and another window with white shutters. A low, white picket fence runs in front of the east facade.
