The station opened in 1929 with the opening of the 1067 mm narrow gauge railway between Alice Springs and Stirling North. In 1980, the normal gauge railway line between Tarcoola and Alice Springs was inaugurated. In 2004, the normal gauge railway line between Alice Springs and Darwin was inaugurated. The station has only one platform for passengers.
