Mare Island Ship Yard

Occupying drydocks #1 & #2 at the former Mare Island Navy Yard, the Mare Island Ship Yard is a ship repair and refitting firm which began operations in December of 2012.

Formerly Allied Defense Recycling, the company attempted unsuccessfully to get into the shipbreaking business due to its proximity to the nearby and soon-to-be liquidated Suisun Bay Reserve Fleet, however the yard was unable to bid competitively for scrapping jobs
and only received four ships for recycling before shutting down operations. Re-formed to tap the ship repair and refit markets, the renamed operation now sees the majority of SBRF ships laidover in their drydocks for hull cleaning and inspections before the vessels are towed to Texas for breaking.
