Finland 2 AT&T Bunker / PMJ Interconnect Control Center

USA / Pennsylvania / Red Hill /
Cold War 1947-1991, bunker, microwave tower / microwave transmission

Hardened routing office on the former AT&T L carrier co-ax telephone east-west network. Built in the early 1960's as a hardened communications system that could survive a nuclear exchange better than microwave relay or wire carrier systems. The bunker could sustain independent operations for two weeks and could survive a 1MT blast to within 5 miles.

The bunker was taken out of service in the 1980's with the advent of the newer fibre-optic networks, however in the late 2000's it was sold to the PJM Interconnection for use as a hardened control facility even tho most electric grid security threats are cyber and not physical.
