SEPTA Southampton Train Station (Closed/Vacant)

USA / Pennsylvania / Warminster Heights /
abandoned / shut down, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), train station

SEPTA's Southampton train station, along its Newtown branch. The station was closed in 1983 after the line between Fox Chase and Newtown was "temporarily suspended" due to failing diesel equipment and a general bias towards strictly electrified service.

Though no longer capable of passage, the old rails and station are still here. The vacant Strathmann Lumber yard could provide a potential site for extra parking when the line is restored in the near future. The Southampton Railroad Station Society is currently raising funds to restore the dilapidated building. www.newtownline.pa-tec.org (formerly www.r8newtown.com)

The Newtown Branch Preservation Foundation, in partnership with the Southampton Railroad Station Society, began restoration of the station building and the surrounding area in October/November of 2011. In July 2012, the station area's lighting was re-energized for the first time since the station's closure.
