On September 8, 1994 at 7:03pm US Air Flight 427, a Boeing 737-3B7 bound for Ft. Lauderdale via Pittsburgh from Chicago O'Hare suffered a loss of control after its rudder jammed, causing the aircraft to roll over and impact the ground in a vertical position at this location. All 132 passengers and crew were killed in the accident.
