Site of Auckland Grammar School (Auckland, NZ)

New Zealand / Auckland / Auckland, NZ / Victoria Street West, 24

This is the second site occupied by Auckland Grammar School. The building constructed for the school was a stylish wooden structure in the French Second Empire style distinguishedby a turret over the entrance. Following the relocation of the boys school to Mt Eden in 1916 the building was used to house the Elam School of Fine Arts. Following a fire which destroyed the building in the 1950s Elam moved to a new building nearby and the site remained empty until the construction of the motorway system in the 1960s.
