During the late 19th century this site was occupied by a school. In the late 1930s plans were drawn up for the construction of a large Public Bath House for this site to service the large working class population of Newton. The construction of other facilities immediatly after the war [the Parnell Pools, the Point Erin Pools & the Newmarket Pools] probably resulted in this scheme being shelved and the construction of the auckland Motorway system removed both the site of the proposed Baths and the residential population it was intended to serve.
