Remaining portion of the 3rd System fortification designed to act in concert with Fort Richmond and Fort Tompkins across the Narrows on Staten Island. Construction began on Fort Hamilton in 1824.

As of 1851, it was intended to be armed with fourteen 42-pounder guns, eighteen 32-pounder guns, five 18-pounder guns, five 12-pounder guns, six field pieces, forty-eight flank howitzers, eight 8" heavy seacoast howitzers, two 13" mortars, four 10" heavy mortars, two light 8" mortars, one 16" stone mortar and five coehorn mortars for a total of 118 guns.

Eventually became the Officers Club, before finally being converted into the Fort Hamilton Community Center, which includes a bar, recreational facilities, and a pool. The lower portion of the structure currently houses the Harbor Defense Museum.
