The Fox Theater was reopened on February 5, 2009 after a nearly ten year renovation process. The theater opened on October 27, 1928, and was long regarded as one of the great movie palaces of the West Coast. For forty years it was a first run film venue, in addition to hosting big name live performances.

With its multi-use renovation, the theater is now an arts complex that will host live performances and serve as the new home for the Oakland School for the Arts.

List on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 as # 79000468

  • It's disgusting to think this gorgeous Golden Age theatre was once slated to become a parking lot.
