Ghosttown is a neighborhood in West Oakland. The origin of the name is unknown and could be related to two casket companies which operated in the area, its deserted nature after many residents left during the construction of BART and I-980, or a high murder rate in the 1980s. The area east of San Pablo was traditionally considered to be North Oakland, but I-980 divided neighborhoods and caused the area to become associated with West Oakland.
