"Donate Blood, Save A Life" declare the banners at the National Blood Centre in Kuala Lumpur. This is the headquarters of the National Blood Centre of Malaysia, or National Blood Bank (Malay: Pusat Darah Negara). It was set up in the country in 1955. The main purpose of the National Blood Bank is to overcome blood scarcity in the country. Since 1992, the amount of blood donated had increased from 202,241 units to 477,365 in 2006. 1 unit is equivalence to 450 ml of blood. 80% of the blood supply came from mobile blood donation campaigns.
