Interstate 81 (Virginia)
Interstate 81 (I-81) is a north-south mainline interstate route from Dandridge, Tennessee to the Canadian border near Fishers Landing, New York. It enters Virginia from Tennessee in Bristol and travels generally northeast to the West Virginia line between Winchester and Martinsburg. Most notably it passes by the cities of Bristol, Wytheville, Roanoke, Lexington, Staunton, Harrisonburg, and Winchester. I-81 has concurrencies with I-77 and I-64 (with I-77 being a wrong-way concurrency). The southwest portion of the route tends to be more mountainous, through the Alleghenies. The northeast portion travels down the Shenandoah Valley. It is a busy route with high volumes of truck traffic.
