Lala Lajpatrai Road (Mumbai)
Formerly called Hornby Vellard, it was a bund (sea-wall) created in 1784 by William Hornby, then Governor of Bombay, against the wishes of the directors of the East India Company. It was later fortified against sea erosion and used as a connecter between Cumballa Hill and Worli Hill. At present. on its east, it is still a flat land right upto Mahalaxmi rail station and used as a race course.
