Texas SH 71 East / Texas SH 21 East (Bastrop, Texas)

Texas State Highway 21 is 272 miles long. It begins at SH 80 near San Marcos heading northeast. It crosses US 183, then joins SH 71 for a few miles in Bastrop. After splitting from SH 71, SH 21 crosses US 77, then SH 36 in Caldwell. It joins US 190 in Bryan up to Madisonville. After leaving US 190, SH 21 crosses Interstate 45 on its way to Crockett. It crosses US 69 in Alto, then heads east through Nacogdoches and crosses US 96 in San Augustine. SH 21 ends at SH 87 in Milam near the Texas-Louisiana border. It used to end at the border, but that portion was transferred to a Forest Service Road.

Texas State Highway 71 is 253.2 miles long. From US Highway 87 south of Brady, it goes southeast to US 281, then through Austin and Bastrop to Interstate 10 in Columbus. From another point on I-10, SH 71 continues south crossing US 59 in El Campo. It ends at SH 35 near Blessing.
