LUECKE

USA / Texas / Bastrop /
interesting place, inscription from the trees

From the NASA journal: "By clearing forest so that a pattern would be visible to landing aircraft, a landowner...created a target that is also useful for evaluating spatial resolution of astronaut photographs. The forest was selectively cleared in order to spell the landowner's name 'LUECKE' with the remaining trees"

I grew up just a few miles west of here, between the two parks. Never have gone out to say hey to the owner, but it is an open land to the public, just check in with the owner. Keep Austin Weird baby!

Funny thing is, "Luecke" is the German word for 'gap'. And a gap it is :).

I'm sure the trees were not cut down in vain. They were probably sold for lumber.

Hello, I am from NASA in Houston. Truth is, we can calibrate not satalites, but the Hubble here.

Satellite imagery has not needed to be calibrated with such a large feature for decades. Urban legend
